Tilbury Douglas has successfully delivered the new £34 million emergency and urgent care campus at Stepping Hill Hospital, Stockport, on behalf of Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.
Previously, the project celebrated the completion of the new Rapid Assessment Unit in the Emergency and Urgent Care Campus, with a light switch-on of the Trust signage.
The project represents a significant investment in the region’s healthcare infrastructure and marks another major healthcare scheme completed by the leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering, and fit-out specialist.

The completion was formally celebrated with an opening ceremony attended by senior figures from the Trust, including chair David Wakefield and Chief Executive Karen James OBE, alongside representatives from Tilbury Douglas and clinical colleagues. The event marked a key milestone in transforming emergency and urgent care provision for the area.
The construction project involved a major extension to the hospital’s original emergency department, creating a more welcoming and visually appealing front to the hospital site.
This redevelopment improves both the physical environment and the overall experience for patients accessing urgent and emergency services, and it is one of the projects the Trust has invested in at Stepping Hill Hospital. MTX is also working on an Outpatients Centre at Stepping Hill Hospital.

The emergency and urgent care campus was designed with patient care and staff wellbeing at its core, the new campus offers state-of-the-art facilities across a significantly expanded clinical area, which has increased by over 300m².
The modern, purpose-built space now accommodates new assessment, treatment, and consultation areas for several vital services, including a dedicated children’s emergency department, mental health services, and same-day emergency care for medical patients.
In addition to the enhanced clinical spaces, the project included a redesigned ambulance drop-off area, improving access and efficiency for emergency services arriving on site.
Speaking at the opening, Trust chair David Wakefield and chief executive Karen James OBE praised the collaborative effort behind the development and highlighted the positive impact the new facilities will have on patient care and staff working conditions.
The completion of this scheme underscores Tilbury Douglas’s continued commitment to delivering high-quality, patient-centred healthcare environments across the UK, supporting the NHS in modernising its estate and enhancing frontline services.
