MTX has acquired Elite Group to expand its presence in healthcare facilities management.
“We believe that during 2026 and beyond, the combined capability of MTX and Elite presents a significant opportunity to support healthcare organisations in addressing critical estate requirements,” said David Hartley, Managing Director of MTX, told Building Better Healthcare
MTX Contracts, a Cheshire-based construction and engineering company, chose Elite Group as it is a longstanding provider of estates and maintenance services to the NHS.
Elite has two decades of operational experience in delivering mechanical, electrical and fabric maintenance. This complements MTX’s established position in modern methods of construction and complex healthcare infrastructure.
The newly acquired company directly employs 45 people and currently delivers a turnover of £7.5m, bringing additional scale, capability and operational resilience to MTX’s growing FM division.
With demand continuing to rise, and the NHS now reporting a maintenance backlog valued at more than £16bn, MTX has been preparing for a substantial expansion of this side of the business.
MTX explained to Building Better Healthcare that the combined organisation will be positioned to support Trusts facing significant operational pressures, not only in delivering compliant and efficient estates but also in tackling long-standing issues associated with ageing hospital infrastructure.
The company added that having Elite Group on board will provide a platform for accelerated growth in 2026 and beyond, helping MTX scale its FM activity to meet the sector’s urgent need for reliable, technically capable maintenance partners.
The acquisition was completed at the end of November and Daniel Bowman has now been appointed as Managing Director of Elite Group.
Bowan founded Elite in 2015 and has led the company’s development of MEP installations and contracting.
New projects ahead for MTX
In September, MTX Contracts was selected to build a large two-storey Pitsea Community Diagnostic Centre, the largest CDC in Mid and South Essex, which will deliver more than 130,000 extra health checks a year including endoscopy, CT/MRI, X-ray and blood tests.
MTX also delivered the structural framework for a £41.5m Cancer and Surgical Innovation Centre at Royal Surrey County Hospital, a development that adds six new operating theatres and expands surgical capacity significantly.
In November, the company also began to build a new six-storey facility at Wycombe Hospital, enabling core services such as stroke care and critical care to move out the existing tower block.
Most recently, at the end of November, the Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust selected MTX to build a new acute kidney (renal) hub at Basildon University Hospital, a single-storey facility designed to expand renal capacity.
