The construction of the new Pitsea Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) has reached a major milestone, with MTX Contracts completing installation of the facility’s prefabricated superstructure.
The milestone marks the completion of the offsite-manufactured structural phase of the project, following the installation of 159 modular units at the Essex site.
With the full structure now in place, work is progressing on brickwork, flooring and external works.
The 5,500 sqm facility, being delivered by MTX using a modern methods of construction approach, will become the largest CDC in the region when complete.
The new centre is expected to provide around 120,000 additional appointments each year.
Services will include MRI, CT, X-ray, ultrasound, endoscopy, cardiology, respiratory diagnostics and blood testing.
Alongside healthcare services, the development will include a wellbeing hub, activity centre, dedicated community space and a new library.
The project was marked with a site visit attended by NHS partners, local councillors and MP James McMurdock, who viewed progress on the development.
The CDC is being delivered for Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Essex County Council and Basildon Council, and forms part of the wider NHS programme to expand diagnostic capacity outside acute hospital settings.
MTX Contracts said the use of offsite manufacturing has supported a faster construction process by allowing elements of the building to be produced in parallel with site works.
Construction is expected to complete in summer 2027, with the new CDC set to open later that year.
