Havenside, a new adult mental health ward at Norton Lea in Boston, has officially opened following the completion of a £34m healthcare project delivered by Integrated Health Projects (IHP), the joint venture between VINCI Building UK and Sir Robert McAlpine.
The 19-bed facility, operated by Lincolnshirey Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (LPFT), replaces the former Ward 12 at Pilgrim Hospital and forms part of the Trust's wider programme to eliminate dormitory-style accommodation across its mental health inpatient estate.
IHP delivered the project for LPFT, with VINCI Building UK and Sir Robert McAlpine forming the joint venture.
Gilling Dod Architects was involved in the design of the facility.
The purpose-built ward provides individual en-suite bedrooms for patients, alongside shared areas and spaces for therapeutic activities.
The facility has been designed around privacy, dignity and recovery, with both indoor and outdoor areas incorporated into the scheme.
The project was developed with input from people with lived experience of mental health services, with their feedback informing elements of the building from its layout and colour choices through to furniture and bathroom facilities.
A wellbeing café, Norton Tea, has also been incorporated into the development.
The café is open to patients, visitors, staff and members of the public, providing a community-facing space away from the clinical environment.
The ward is the third project delivered for LPFT as part of its programme to replace outdated dormitory accommodation with modern inpatient environments.
The new facility has 10 beds for women and nine for men.
The official opening took place on 10 March 2026, with the completed building opened to the local community through public tours.
Patients subsequently began transferring from the former accommodation at Pilgrim Hospital.
