NHSPS has announced that work to deliver a state-of-the-art health and care facility in Trowbridge has begun after the multimillion-pound project was given the green light.
Development of the £16 million Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre has begun opposite the town’s current community hospital to make way for the new facility which, once fully open, will become the new home for many of the services based within the outdated hospital buildings.
The building is being developed by NHS Property Services and funded by NHS England; the Department of Health and Social Care; NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board and Wiltshire Council, with completion expected at the end of next year.

As well as replacing the town’s community hospital, the new Trowbridge Integrated Care Centre will provide local people with an additional primary care service, more same-day urgent care provision and space to support mobile diagnostic units.
Andrew Strange, Estates Strategy Lead for NHSPS in the South, said: “It’s fantastic that this exciting project has been given the green light, and we are very pleased to be able to support the construction and delivery of this super integrated care centre which we know will enable our NHS colleagues across different specialisms to work more collaboratively and deliver excellent care in a fantastic, state of the art environment at the heart of the community.”
Caroline Holmes, Interim Director of Place – Wiltshire, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, added: “We are delighted to have the go-ahead for this new integrated care centre, which will bring real benefits to the people of Trowbridge and the surrounding areas. Investing in community services is part of our longer-term strategy that will see more NHS care provided in locations outside of the traditional hospital setting.
The move follows NHSPS’ delivery of its ‘sister’ site Devizes Health Centre
“Having services based in the community, in locations such as this new state-of-the-art centre, will not only put care closer to patients’ home, but also support different health and care teams to work closer together, which should result in a much smoother, more joined-up experience of the NHS for local people.
The move follows NHSPS’ delivery of its ‘sister’ site Devizes Health Centre. It will also employ the latest green technology to be net zero carbon in operation.
Some of the services that will be housed in the new integrated care centre include maternity care, physiotherapy, podiatry and community-based mental health support.
Moving services from the current Trowbridge Community Hospital to the new site will be carried out in phases as part of a planned relocation process.
NHS colleagues across partner organisations and patients will be kept updated throughout the duration of the build, with important news regarding progress and notable developments due to be shared on a regular basis.
