A new community diagnostic centre has opened in Camborne and Redruth, providing residents with faster access to a wide range of NHS diagnostic tests and scans closer to home.
Located adjacent to Camborne Redruth Community Hospital, the facility consolidates services including MRI and CT scanning, X-rays, blood testing, ECGs, respiratory diagnostics and endoscopy.
The CDC has been delivered by NHS Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Integrated Care Board in partnership with InHealth and NHS Property Services.
“I am really pleased to be here to see this fantastic centre in Redruth. This is exactly what we want to do as part of our ten-year health plan. We’ve specifically talked about the needs of rural and coastal communities and bringing care closer…to the public,” said Karin Smyth, MP, Minister of State for Health.
The CDC is part of the government’s 10 year plan to move diagnostic care out of hospitals and into the community, helping to ease pressure on acute services.
The new Camborne and Redruth facility is expected to benefit thousands of patients across West Cornwall by increasing capacity for essential tests and scans within a community setting.
The opening of the CDC is part of a wider investment in healthcare infrastructure in Cornwall, including the opening of the modular Rosewarne Stroke Rehabilitation Unit, its first new hospital ward in more than two decades.
