Winners of HSJ Awards 2011 are announced
WEB solutions to boost communicable disease control and manage long-term conditions in the community, and a cost-cutting carbon reduction programme, are just a few of the projects singled out for praise in this year’s HSJ Awards.
More than 1,400 guests attended the 30th annual ceremony recently to hear the announcement of the winners in 18 categories, covering the best innovations, ideas and dedication found throughout the healthcare sector over the last year.
Alastair McLellan, HSJ editor, said: “As well as highlighting the quality of this year’s winners, we would also like to honour the hundreds that have won HSJ Awards over the last three decades. Their combined contribution is responsible for many of the huge advances the service has delivered.
"All working in and with the NHS will hope that 2012 will prove to be a more positive year than this, while recognising the challenges of reform and productivity are set to become even sharper. We hope and believe the 2011 HSJ Awards winners can be an inspiration to light the way ahead."
Handing over the Good Corporate Citizenship Award at the event at the Grosvenor Hotel in London to Sussex Community NHS Trust, Sonia Roschnik, operational director at the NSH Sustainable Development Unit, said: “The trust has been selected for its resourcefulness in supporting Good Corporate Citizenship across a range of key areas, while keeping environmental and financial costs to a minimum.
"It demonstrated substantial and tangible results at a time of transition and considerable organisational change."
The award recognises Sussex's ambitious five-year sustainable development management plan, which promises zero waste to landfill and a 25% carbon footprint reduction by 2015.
