Infection prevention and control specialist GAMA Healthcare have launched a state-of-the-art training facility designed to simulate a live Hospital environment to enable them to offer “bespoke” training for NHS nurses and other health professionals working in infection prevention and control

GAMA Healthcare have recently moved into a brand-new 20,000 sq ft workspace in Hemel Hempstead, which incorporates the new world-class hospital training suite, following the completion of construction work by office design company Oktra.

“The new space is built to accommodate GAMA Healthcare’s long-term rapid growth with completely agile designs as the company transitions to an entirely new way of working,” says Laurence Shanks, Design Director at Oktra

The simulation suite has been designed by healthcare environment design specialists LSI Architects and consists of a ward environment encompassing a two-bed ward, an isolation suite (with en suite) a utility area and a seminar area where presentations will be hosted (virtual webinars or face-to-face education). Much of the equipment has been provided by healthcare furniture specialists Agile Medical and Receptek.

“We are delighted to have been able to support GAMA in the creation of this fantastic hospital simulation suite which will help NHS healthcare professionals receive training around how best to clean ward equipment, such as IV stands and bedside cabinets, that are used every day across the NHS. This is all in view of enhancing the day-to-day experience of both the patients and healthcare professionals staying and working in healthcare environments”. A second new office for GAMA Healthcare in China also features an infection prevention and control training suite designed to replicate an active hospital environment, as well as accompanying academic suites for tech-enabled learning.

GAMA Healthcare has already trained over 32,000 NHS healthcare professionals free of charge since 2016 and hopes to lower infection rates by reaching a further 10,000 NHS staff in 2021.

“Training has always been at the heart of what we do,” says GAMA Healthcare Joint CEO & Co-Founder Dr Guy Braverman. “The way you deliver training is really important – it needs to be interactive. A product is only as effective as the training behind it, which is why we believe innovative training is key to reducing infections.”

With GAMA Healthcare also having recently expanded its hospital hygiene offering the training facility provides the perfect environment to host demonstrations and allow NHS staff the chance to assemble or program the technologies, troubleshooting any concerns or queries on-site with the trainers.

Dr Guy Braverman added, “GAMA Healthcare is founded by two ex-NHS doctors and we know first-hand the demands facing everyone who works within the NHS, but particularly infection control, to continually improve quality. There is a definite need for continued learning provided and led by specialists in that area, which is why we’re investing in our new training suite.”

“We are thrilled to be now start welcoming NHS staff working in infection prevention and control into our training suite this year. Not only has GAMA Healthcare provided healthcare training for over a decade; between myself and the other Clinical Directors, with nearly 100 years combined IPC experience, sharing knowledge and skills both in the UK and abroad makes the clinical team a valuable resource when it comes to healthcare professional education,” comments Yvonne Carter, Clinical Director at GAMA Healthcare, “Our training can be bespoke and developed to answer particular clinical challenges. Whether a team is battling a C. diff outbreak or a ward team wishing to learn about aseptic dressing techniques; we can develop a specific session.”

“Having completed over 600 projects in the healthcare sector, we’ve applied our extensive experience of designing healthcare environments to create a room that effectively simulates a live hospital environment, providing all of the spaces that would need regular, effective cleaning.” commented David Andrews, Director at LSI Architects.
