The University of Huddersfield has opened the Emily Siddon Building on its National Health Innovation Campus for patients and healthcare students

The University of Huddersfield has officially opened the Emily Siddon Building on its National Health Innovation Campus

The building houses a new community diagnostic centre and specialist teaching facilities, which are now welcoming patients and healthcare students.

The new multi-million pound, 6,800 sqm facility was designed by architects AHR and built by Kier Construction.

The building is located adjacent to the Daphne Steele Building on Southgate, which was constructed by BAM and designed by AHR Architects in 2024.

The CDC within the facility

The new facility contains a CDC operated in partnership with Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust.

The CDC will offer a range of diagnostic tests, including X-rays, CT and MRI scans. All outside of a traditional hospital setting.

The partnership between the University and CHFT is one of the first CDCs on a university campus in the UK.

New specialist clinical teaching facilities

The multi-purpose building also contains specialist clinical teaching facilities and a Health Business Innovation Centre for local entrepreneurs and start-ups.

First through the doors were students from the University’s diagnostic radiography, dental hygiene and dental therapy courses.

With the simulation technology and access to the CDC, students will benefit from learning in a realistic environment, preparing them for their future careers.

An MRI simulation scanner that students will use on the first floor is the first of its kind in the UK.

Over 50 visitors attended a preview tour of the new building, including the CDC

It is the local area’s second CDC, following on from the opening of the highly successful CDC in Halifax in the summer of 2024, which was a collaboration between Gradus, Vinci Construction and AFL Architects.
