The first patients have moved into the new Nuffield Hospital in Cambridge.
The £30m facility, built by Simons Construction and designed by P+HS Architects, sees a vast amount of new features and facilities, creating a more-fluid flow through the departments for staff, patients and visitors.
The new 38-bed hospital includes inpatient and outpatient departments, 16 consulting rooms, oncology and endoscopy services, diagnostic imaging services, a physiotherapy department, a gym, a pharmacy, and three state-of-the-art digital theatres. Staff areas include a terrace and a breakfast bar.
Artwork also features in the new facility, with art consultant, Guy Noble, brought in to lead an arts programme, which includes works by Simon Faithfull and landscape designers.
The next phase of the work, starting next month, will see Simons being demolition of the majority of the original hospital to provide additional parking and landscaping. The scheme includes the retention and refurbishment of one wing to provide a pathology department and medical record office, as well as staff facilities, offices and meeting rooms. This work is expected to be completed by next summer.
