Mansell has completed a £9.4m three-storey extra care housing scheme for the Sanctuary Group in Derby.
The Greenwich Gardens Extra Care development in Mackworth will provide accommodation and care facilities for the over-55s.
Energy efficiency features highly within the development, with mechanical ventilation heat recovery in each apartment and composite doors with high U values providing excellent thermal properties. These features have helped the development achieve a BREEAM ‘Very Good’ rating. The development also benefits from an innovative fire suppression approach which uses a fine spray of water, known as ‘full misting’ to extinguish fires.
The building comprises 98 apartments of which 20 are for sale and the remaining 78 for rent. Other facilities include a cinema/TV room, a hair and beauty salon, health suite, gymnasium, library, restaurant and kitchens. Residents are also able to enjoy a sensory garden.
Mansell project manager, John Toyne, said: “This was an interesting and innovative project for us, both in terms of the materials used and the features of the building. During the course of construction we delivered on our commitment to local communities through engagement with students from the University of Derby and the primary school located directly behind the site.”
Andrew White, Sanctuary’s director of development, added: “It is great to see work completed on this scheme which will provide much needed high-quality accommodation for the city’s older residents.”
