Designed by healthcare experts, P+HS Architects, for Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, the Ruskin Unit at Carlisle’s Carleton Clinic creates a bespoke environment to meet the specific needs of older adults with dementia.
P+HS worked with PSCP Mansell (Balfour Beatty) through the ProCure21+ framework to deliver the £2.6m scheme, which involved carefully phased works during the extensive remodelling of existing buildings, together with new-build construction.
New single en-suite bedrooms provide more flexible accommodation and the modern facilities and therapeutic environment will enhance patient, staff and visitor experience.
The unit has improved circulation routes, utilising colour and prominent fixtures to aid orientation. The design includes a variety of spaces for activities, therapy and support and provides plentiful safe access to courtyards and garden space for relaxation and activity.
