GRAHAM has completed refurbishment and M&E installations for the Interventional Radiology Department at Queen’s Medical Centre

Healthcare construction expert GRAHAM has completed the refurbishment and M&E installations of the Interventional Radiology Department at Queen’s Medical Centre (QMC).

QMC is a facility that carries out life-saving mechanical thrombectomy procedures.

GRAHAM is a UK-based construction business with an annual turnover of £1.094bn and over 2,000 employees.

Elizabeth Smith, Healthcare Director at GRAHAM, said: “Fresh and vibrant spaces have been created, which are a vast improvement to the existing facility, providing a much-enhanced experience for both staff and patients.”

The works for Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, which were procured through the ProCure22 (P22) framework, were split into four individual phases to ensure that full operational capacity was maintained throughout the life of the project.

As part of the necessary M&E upgrades, GRAHAM constructed a two-storey, steel frame plantroom directly on top of the live building to house three new dedicated air handling units.

GRAHAM worked collaboratively with medical specialists, Siemens Healthineers, to support the preparation for installing the two brand new biplanes, and Raybloc, for installing all radiation protection.

Over £1m of electrical and mechanical infrastructure upgrades were also carried out to help improve general services throughout the wider hospital.

Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust’s Medical Director, Dr Manjeet Shehmar, said: “I am confident the new Interventional Radiology theatres at NUH will be a great success for our patients. We are already a regional centre for Mechanical Thrombectomy, so these theatres allow us to deliver these procedures to an even higher standard.”

In addition to the Interventional Radiology Department, GRAHAM also previously completed C6 Ward refurbishment and Leengate Therapies refurbishment at QMC.
