Built by Integrated Health Projects, the new 23,000m² BEACH Building will establish Royal Bournemouth Hospital as Dorset’s major emergency care centre

Integrated Health Projects (IHP), the joint venture between VINCI Building UK and Sir Robert McAlpine, has successfully delivered a landmark healthcare facility at The Royal Bournemouth Hospital.

The state-of-the-art BEACH Building stands as a 23,000m², six-storey complex — an area equivalent to 115 tennis courts — and will play a pivotal role in reshaping healthcare provision for Dorset.

Designed to enhance and expand critical medical services, the BEACH Building includes a new maternity unit, a dedicated children's unit, and a significantly enlarged emergency department.

The emergency department alone is larger than the existing facilities at both Royal Bournemouth and Poole Hospitals combined.

In addition, a new critical care unit with capacity for 30 beds has been incorporated to support the region’s growing healthcare needs.

Once fully operational, the new facility will enable The Royal Bournemouth Hospital to serve as Dorset’s major emergency hospital, providing care for nearly 145,000 patients annually.

The enhanced services are expected to markedly reduce patient waiting times and improve outcomes across emergency, birth, critical care, and children's health services.

During a recent site visit, the VINCI Building UK Senior Leadership Team toured the BEACH Building, accompanied by representatives from The Royal Bournemouth and Christchurch Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Trust commended the project teams for their commitment, enthusiasm, and delivery of what was described as a "fantastic facility" that will make a lasting difference for the region’s healthcare services.

This project underscores IHP’s continuing dedication to delivering complex, high-quality healthcare infrastructure that meets the evolving needs of NHS Trusts and the communities they serve.
