A new purpose-built health centre is set to be built in Doune in Scotland.
The £2.4m facility will provide a wide range of local health services including physiotherapy, podiatry and counselling, as well as services to support people with long-term conditions such as diabetes, dementia and COPD. In addition, facilities for the existing GP practice will be enhanced, as well as accommodation provided for a range of visiting outpatient and services such as antenatal and child health clinics.
The development of a new centre is seen as a key priority as the current facility is overcrowded, requires considerable maintenance, and is too small to accommodate the future needs of the growing local population.
NHS Forth Valley has worked closely with staff from the existing health centre to develop plans for the new centre and earlier this year the board purchased a plot of land on the north side of Doune. An Initial Agreement has now been approved by the NHS Forth Valley Board and has been submitted to the Scottish Government. If approved, more detailed financial and design plans for the proposed new centre will be developed and, if national funding is secured, work could start next summer.
In the meantime, an additional temporary building has been installed at the existing health centre to create extra accommodation.
