Darwin Group has started work on a new 15-bed high dependency unit (HDU) and 30-bed general acute ward at Airedale General Hospital in Keighley, West Yorkshire.
Built using Modern Methods of Construction, and scheduled for completion in March, the state-of-the-art accommodation will be built on a steep sloping site and connected back to the existing hospital corridor at ground-floor level.
And a new under-croft space on the lower ground floor will accommodate the plant room for the new development.
Darwin Group’s in-house management team is working closely with Airedale NHS Foundation Trust and its estates and facilities subsidiary, AGH Solutions, to ensure minimal disruption to the hospital’s services and site facilities during the construction period.
This will be achieved through delivering large parts of the project using a volumetric hybrid modular system manufactured offsite utilising modern methods of construction in the Darwin Group’s factory.
Charles Pierce, managing director at Darwin Group, said: “We are proud to have delivered some fantastic NHS buildings and we are thrilled to add this project to our portfolio.
“The initial designs for the building look fantastic and the team is looking forward to bringing the plans to life.”
David Moss, managing director of AGH Solutions, adds: “We are pleased that our building works are beginning.
“It will make a real difference to both our patients and our staff and I am looking forward to seeing the building take shape.”
