NHS Tayside and the North of Scotland Planning Group have commissioned the award-winning anti-ligature Safevent windows from Britplas for a new mental health facility at Murray Royal Hospital in Angus. The window system provides protection against suicide by hanging as well as allowing maximum levels of natural ventilation and light into the building. Worth £3m, the contract will see Britplas fitting Safevent windows and associated curtain walling and door systems in three buildings. In a separate scheme, the windows are also being installed at a new £20m mental health centre at Strathcaro Hospital. Neil Guest, company spokesman, said: "Research shows that patients do better with less intrusive supervision and Safevent meets this need. The windows look and work much like a conventional window, making units feel less institutional and more homely."
