Construction has officially started on a new Maggie’s Cancer Support Centre in Liverpool, marking the beginning of work on a £5m facility that will provide practical, psychological and emotional support for people affected by cancer.
The centre is being built at the junction of Daulby Street and Prescot Street, adjacent to the Liverpool-based Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, and is expected to open in summer 2027.
The project has been commissioned, designed and fully funded by the Steve Morgan Foundation, making it the Foundation's third Maggie's centre in the region following the opening of facilities in Wirral and North Wales.
Wynne Construction, a design-and-build main contractor headquartered in Bodelwyddan, Denbighshire, North Wales, is the main contractor appointed to deliver the project.
Once complete, the centre will offer free practical advice, emotional support and psychological care for people with cancer, as well as their families and friends, serving communities across Merseyside.
Ann-Louise Ward, the Chief Operating Officer of Maggie's Centres, has been appointed as a judge for the 2026 Building Better Healthcare Awards (BBHA).

The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by representatives from the Steve Morgan Foundation, Maggie's, NHS University Hospitals of Liverpool Group, The Clatterbridge Cancer Centre and local civic leaders, including the Lord Mayor of Liverpool and the High Sheriff of Merseyside.
The Liverpool centre forms part of the wider redevelopment of the former Royal Liverpool University Hospital site that is being led by BAM Construction.
After DSM completed the demolition of the old Royal Liverpool Hospital, BAM Construction began work on delivering a new infrastructure for the hospital, including an extended podium and a new two-way entrance connecting Mount Vernon Street and Daulby Street.
In May, BAM and Eden Project also received planning permission to build a new nature-focused public park at Royal Liverpool Hospital, part of a larger transformation of the estate.
Once the Maggie’s Cancer Support Centre in Liverpool is completed, it will become the first completed development within the long-term healthcare campus masterplan.
