Stepping Hill Hospital has opened a new Changing Places toilet facilities for disabled patients, visitors and carers, delivered through a partnership between Tilbury Douglas and Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.
The project was led by the Trust's capital projects team, with funding provided primarily by Tilbury Douglas and its supply chain partners, alongside support from Stockport NHS Charity.
Local consultants and specialist contractors also contributed to the delivery of the facility.
Designed for people with complex disabilities, the Changing Places facilities provide significantly more space than a standard accessible toilet.
The toilets also include specialist equipment such as a height-adjustable changing bench and ceiling-mounted hoist, enabling users to access the hospital with greater dignity and support.
The project highlights the role contractors can play in delivering social value beyond core construction programmes, with the new toilets adding to the hospital's inclusive infrastructure without forming part of a major capital scheme.
The opening builds on Tilbury Douglas' wider involvement at Stepping Hill Hospital, having previously delivered the Trust's £34m Emergency and Urgent Care Campus.
The contractor said the Changing Places project was made possible through the collective support of its supply chain and delivery partners, working with the Trust to identify an opportunity to improve facilities for patients and visitors.
The toilets are now open for use by disabled patients, visitors and carers requiring specialist changing and toilet provision.
