A CHARITY specialising in the autoimmune neuromuscular disease, myasthenia gravis (MG), has donated a painting to one of the wards at The Walton Centre in Liverpool in memory of an internationally-renowned consultant who died suddenly of a brain haemorrhage. The Myasthenia Gravis Association presented a print of a painting by William Gillies, a favourite artist of Dr Ian Hart, which will hang in the outpatients area of the hospital where he worked. A consultant neurologist, Dr Hart was a world-renowned expert in MG, a condition that causes sometimes-fatal muscle weakness. As well as the painting, the charity also donated enough money to pay for a laboratory blood testing bio-bank and improved staff training to enable better diagnosis across the region. The painting was handed over by Dr Hart's widow, Gillian, who works as an epilepsy specialist at the hospital.
