Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust uses Hicom\'s Twinkle.net to enhance care pathways

The Children’s Diabetes Service at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust has deployed Twinkle.net, a web-based paediatric diabetes care management solution from Hicom.

The solution will provide the hospital with an efficient data management and communication tool for the effective care and treatment of children with diabetes.

Twinkle.net is a Microsoft.net-based application that includes a comprehensive diabetes-related electronic health record tailored to the needs of paediatric specialists as well as administrative and audit tools.

Dr Julie Edge, lead consultant in paediatric diabetes at Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “Choosing Twinkle.net means that for the first time every authorised doctor, nurse, dietician, psychologist and administrator in the team can access paediatric patient data securely at any time from anywhere in the hospital and amend it where necessary. All of our patient care can now be logged and tracked, making auditing fast and efficient.”

The Oxfordshire Children’s Diabetes Service will use Twinkle.net to support the hospital in providing data for the National Paediatric Diabetes Audit and also to demonstrate that they are eligible for the Best Practice Tariff (BPT).

Dr Edge said: “By using Twinkle.net, we are able to provide accurate and timely data reports on patient care and can demonstrate our eligibility for funding.

“Twinkle.net benefits us from both critical aspects in that it means that we can provide accurate data about care and outcomes, while enabling the clinical teams to continue providing the best-quality paediatric diabetes care possible.”
