Ergéa UK and the Somerset NHS Foundation Trust have delivered a refurbished department with high-resolution 3D imaging

Musgrove Park Hospital has reopened its Nuclear Medicine department following a major refurbishment.

This refresh introduces a new SPECT/CT scanner and a purpose-built clinical environment designed to improve patient flow and expand local diagnostic services.

Delivered by Ergéa UK in partnership with Somerset NHS Foundation Trust, the redevelopment includes dedicated patient and clinical areas aimed at streamlining workflows and enhancing the overall care experience.

"We are proud to have contributed to a purpose-built facility that enhances patient care, streamlines services and benefits the wider community,” said Gavin Brooksbank, Head of Implementation at Ergéa UK.

The UK-based vendor-independent Managed Equipment Services (MES) provider installed the hybrid imaging system, which combines nuclear medicine with diagnostic-quality CT.

The upgraded imaging system enables clinicians to generate high-resolution 3D images that capture both anatomical detail and functional activity.

This supports more accurate diagnosis, monitoring and treatment planning across a range of conditions.

As a result of the upgrade, a broader range of procedures, including complex parathyroid and orthopaedic bone scans, can now be delivered on site.

Further service expansion is planned, with the introduction of specialist imaging including DATscan for Parkinson’s disease and scans for neuroendocrine tumours.

The Trust expects the changes to reduce waiting times and limit the need for patients to travel to specialist centres in cities such as Bristol, Bath, Exeter, and Salisbury.

Other Ergéa UK projects

Ergéa has been working across the UK with multiple NHS trusts to complete upgrades for their diagnostic imaging services.

Last year, the company worked with the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to complete a major upgrade to diagnostic imaging services at John Radcliffe Hospital.

This included the installation of a GE Artist Evo MRI scanner and a GE SPECT/CT gamma camera.

The company also worked with University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust to install a Halcyon linear accelerator, which will boost radiotherapy services for cancer care.
