MTX Contracts, a Cheshire-based construction and engineering company, has begun construction on the Pitsea Community Diagnostic Centre.
Using Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), the two-storey facility is due to open in spring 2027 and will provide more than 130,000 additional health checks annually.
The Pitsea CDC will feature an eight-room endoscopy suite, X-ray, CT and MRI scanning facilities, and other diagnostic services. In addition, the centre will act as a community hub, incorporating a purpose-built activity centre and library.
Structural steel modules are being manufactured off-site, while groundworks proceed on-site. Electrical and mechanical modules will be factory-tested before assembly, accelerating construction, improving quality, and reducing costs.
“Our MMC build process ensures high-quality outcomes and brings projects into use sooner, benefiting patients, staff and delivering earlier returns on investment for the Trust,” said David Hartley, MTX Managing Director.
The project is a collaborative initiative between Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, Essex County Council, and Basildon Council, developed on the former site of The Place and Pitsea Library.
Other healthcare wins by MTX
MTX is also delivering several other major healthcare projects across England, further expanding diagnostic and clinical services.
This month, MTX won the contract to extend the Lincoln Community Diagnostic Centre with off‑site steel modules to boost diagnostic capacity and patient access.
In November, MTX also won a contract to build a new acute kidney hub at Basildon University Hospital, expanding renal services with faster, off‑site construction.
Also in November, MTX was selected to deliver a new multi‑storey facility at Wycombe Hospital to replace outdated clinical spaces and modernise services.
