The construction firm has provided a third cohort of young people with a 12-week programme that includes hands-on construction experience in a live environment

A third group of young people in Bury are being given an opportunity to enter the construction industry through a job-creation partnership between Morgan Sindall Construction, Bury Council and training provider Skills Construction Centre.

“Work hard, stay curious, and this industry will reward you. Construction needs the next generation, and programmes like this one in Bury are how we find and develop that talent,” said Steven Gregory, Area Director for the North West at Morgan Sindall Construction

The programme is aimed at young people who are currently not in education, employment or training (NEET), providing them with practical experience on a live construction site.

Participants undertake a 12-week placement designed to introduce them to the construction industry while helping them develop workplace skills and gain qualifications, including the Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card.

The project site is the permanent home of Star Radcliffe Academy, a five-form entry secondary school operated by Star Academies.

The school opened in temporary accommodation in September 2024, while construction continues on its permanent facilities on Spring Lane.

The latest cohort is gaining experience while work continues on the new building for Star Radcliffe Academy.

The new three-storey building will provide around 6,000 sqm of space and is designed as a ‘superblock’, alongside extensive external works including sports provision, a new access road, and a dedicated drop-off area.

“By bringing young people directly onto real world projects, we're showing them what this industry really looks like,” said Gregory.
