Appointed via the NHS ProCure23 framework, Logan Construction will deliver the £12m transformation of a disused 1920s building in Hillingdon into a modern health centre

Logan Construction has officially broken ground on the £12m Northwood and Pinner health centre.

A significant healthcare redevelopment project set to serve communities in Hillingdon from summer 2026, the project received council approval in March 2024.

Appointed via the NHS ProCure23 framework, Logan Construction will lead the refurbishment and extension of a locally listed building, originally built in the 1920s and vacant since the late 2000s.

The site, once a cottage hospital, will be transformed into a 1,500 sqm health centre, with key historical features including the founder’s plaque and memorial beam, retained within the new scheme.

William Logan, Managing Director of Logan Construction, said: "Our focus is on delivering a high-quality facility within the agreed programme and budget, while ensuring a welcoming and efficient environment for both patients and healthcare professionals."

The scheme was marked with a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, 7 May, attended by health, property, and construction partners, including Emily Curtis, Director of Capital and Infrastructure at the Department of Health and Social Care.

Delivered by NHS Property Services (NHSPS) in collaboration with NHS North West London and future occupiers, the project has been over five years in development.

As part of a wider estate rationalisation initiative, 100% of the proceeds from the disposal of surplus land linked to the site will be reinvested into the health centre’s construction, reinforcing NHSPS’s commitment to sustainable, integrated healthcare infrastructure.

Approved through the NHS business case process, occupiers have committed to leases while working closely with the design team to ensure the building meets contemporary healthcare standards.

Adrian Powell, Director of Investment and Development Management at NHSPS, said "Northwood and Pinner is a key hub that serves thousands across the locality. We are breathing new life into the building, creating a modern facility to deliver excellent patient care."

Once complete, the health centre will provide a wide range of services, including district nursing, ambulatory wound care, health visiting, school nursing, GP services, a diabetes clinic, bladder and bowel care, diabetic eye screening, mental health services, and talking therapies.

Sustainability is central to the scheme

The facility will also feature enhanced staff and patient amenities, including collaborative meeting spaces, cycle storage, showers, electric vehicle charging points, and three garden areas.

Sustainability is central to the scheme, with air-source heat pumps, LED lighting, thermally efficient building fabric, water-saving fixtures, and biodiversity-focused landscaping.

Local patient groups have welcomed the start of construction. Joan Butfield, chair of the Carepoint patients' participation group, added: "It is great to see work start on the new centre — it has been a long time in the planning. It will be wonderful for doctors and patients to have a fit-for-purpose surgery."
