SALFORD Royal NHS Foundation Trust managers have received the keys to its new hospital wing from developer, Balfour Beatty Construction. The firm officially handed over the new Hope Building last week following a two-year project which has created facilities including a new A and E department, a 55-bed emergency assessment unit, a 32-bed critical care unit and new departments for renal, intestinal failure and urology services. The trust will now begin to move patients into the five-storey, 25,407sq m building. Chief executive, David Dalton, said: "After being involved in the first stage of planning 10 years ago and then watching the building gradually taking shape over the past two years, it is a very proud and happy moment to see it complete. We've worked with patient representatives and staff to make sure it provides the best possible environment to care for our patients." Throughout the building 50% of rooms in ward areas are in single-occupancy accommodation with en-suite shower facilities. Balfour Beatty project director, Finlay Inglis, said: "The successful completion of the new Hope Building is the major milestone in our works here at Salford. The buildings' feature design and high-quality finishes are a result of the close relationship developed with the trust over the last four years.
