HUDDERSFIELD Town Football Club goalkeeper, Alex Smithies, is backing Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust's annual campaign promoting the importance of safe hand hygiene. The Wash your Hands campaign is aimed at highlighting the importance of always having clean hands to reduce the risk of infections in homes and hospitals. Karen Tomlinson and Andrea Denton, infection prevention and control nurses at the trust, are heading the initiative. Tomlinson said: "Washing hands is a simple and effective way of reducing infections, yet it can sometimes be forgotten. Good hand hygiene is fundamental in preventing the spread both in health care environments and at home. Hand hygiene is everybody's responsibility."
