Construction of new wards at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital to restart in May

The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust has named ModuleCo as the firm set to progress the scheme

Work to build two new wards at Royal Shrewsbury Hospital will restart this month (May 2025) following the appointment of ModuleCo as the new construction contractor.

This follows the announcement in September 2024 that Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust signed a design and build contract with Integrated Health Projects for projects at two of its hospitals.

The project is part of the Hospitals Transformation Programme (HTP), with enabling works continuing this spring in partnership with construction partner Integrated Health Projects (IHP).

The new wards are expected to open during the Winter of 2025/26.

The project will see the creation of two modern, purpose-built wards at the back of the RSH site, close to the current surgical ward.

The location has been chosen to support better joint working between surgical and rehabilitation teams while enhancing the patient experience, according to the Trust.

Additionally, the relocation will free up space in the centre of the hospital for urgent medical care facilities closer to the Emergency Department.

A spokesperson for Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust said: "These two modern, purpose-built wards will make a really positive difference for our patients and a better working environment for staff. We are committed to working at pace with our new contractor and partners to have the wards operational this Winter."
