Bupa has opened a flagship mental health centre in central London, launching its latest Mindplace facility at Broadgate to increase access to face-to-face talking therapies for employees and corporate clients.
The new centre, located near Liverpool Street Station, is part of Bupa’s wider programme to open 70 Mindplace centres across the UK by 2027.
It will operate seven days a week and is designed to support more than 400 patients per week.
The facility offers in-person services including counselling, psychotherapy, psychology and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), delivered across seven therapy rooms, along with dedicated spaces for couples and group therapy.
Mindplace Broadgate is the first of Bupa’s planned 70 purpose-built mental health centres, designed to improve access to in-person support for working adults in central London.
The centre will operate with extended opening hours from 8am to 10pm on weekdays, 9am to 8pm on Saturdays and 10am to 6pm on Sundays to reflect work and commuting patterns in the city.
The launch follows data from Bupa indicating that mental health claims among younger workers have doubled since 2019, with poor mental health linked to an estimated 448,000 lost workdays annually in the UK.
Bupa’s Healthy Workforce, Healthy Economy report estimates that improved access to private mental health provision could generate a £360m boost to the UK economy through reduced absenteeism and presenteeism, including a £58.6m impact in London.
The Broadgate site is one of 20 Mindplace centres currently operating in the UK, with further openings planned as part of the organisation’s expansion programme through to 2027.
“We know people want face-to-face access to mental health professionals so we’re pleased to be investing in Mindplace Broadgate, our flagship centre and first to open in the capital, as well as 70 centres across the UK by 2027,” said Sarah Melia, General Manager for Health Services Bupa.
Bupa Health Clinics is also working with Circle Design on the delivery of a number of new city-centre health hubs as part of its wider expansion of Bupa Health Clinics across the UK.
