We are thrilled to announce today the official launch of the 2013 Building Better Healthcare Awards.
After a record number of entries for last year’s competition, and reflecting the significant changes occurring within the healthcare marketplace, this year’s event will be the biggest to date – with a total of 22 awards up for grabs in eight categories. Click here to access the site.
This year’s Building Design class will see five awards presented for Inpatient Facility, International Healthcare Design, Primary Care Design, Community Healthcare, and Conceptual Healthcare Building. For the first time there will also be a special award – The Grand Prix Healthcare Building Design Award - for the project the judges feel is the best overall in the class.
The next category is Estates and Facilities Management. There are three gongs up for grabs – for Best Use of Financial Resources to Improve the Healthcare Estate, Best Use of Existing Estate, and Facilities Management Partner .
The awards will also recognise efforts to make the healthcare estate more sustainable, with two prizes for Innovative Alternative Use of Energy and Best Carbon Reduction Project .
In the Patient Experience category, the judges will be awarding trophies for Best External Environment , Best Internal Environment , and Best Collaborative Arts Project .
We have also expanded the Product class for 2013 to recognise the huge impact medical devices and technologies have on the delivery of effective healthcare services. There will be awards for Best Health Technology Project encompassing IT solutions and assistive technologies such as telehealth and telecare; Best Medical Device , and Best Building Product
But it’s not just the premises, products and processes that will be thrown into the spotlight. We will also be recognising the people behind these innovations. In the 2013 People class, we will be awarding trophies for Building Design Champion and Client of the Year.
Returning this year are the popular Special Awards for Patient’s Choice and Clinician’s Choice . These are presented by our GP and patient representatives, Dr Roy MacGregor and Danny Daniels. They will review all entries across all categories and choose the one they feel has the biggest impact on patients and clinical outcomes.
Finally, for the first time there will be a third Special Award sponsored by ProCure21+ - The ProCure21+ Award for Best Project - recognising an outstanding healthcare development delivered through the ProCure21+ procurement process.

The esteemed judging panel will choose the winners in the autumn and they will be announced at a plush ceremony at The Brewery in central London on Wednesday, 6 November.
