Braintree Community Hospital, part of Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust, is set to open a new state-of-the-art procedure room this summer.
This new £1.3 million facility will effectively double the hospital’s ability to provide minor orthopaedic treatments.
The procedure room is designed to provide a more efficient and patient-friendly environment for those requiring orthopaedic interventions that do not necessitate the use of a full operating theatre.
The new facility will allow patients from across mid and south Essex to access treatment more quickly for conditions such as carpal tunnel syndrome, trigger finger, and a range of minor foot, elbow, and upper limb issues.

Ayse Casey, Deputy Director of Operations for Trauma and Orthopaedics at the Trust, said: “By offering more procedures outside of the main theatres, we can prioritise complex surgeries, such as knee and hip replacements. This will help reduce waiting times and improve overall access to care for patients.”
The opening of the procedure room coincides with the ongoing development of Braintree’s new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC), which will also be located on the same hospital site.
The CDC is expected to offer an expanded range of diagnostic services, including CT and MRI scans, ultrasounds, x-rays, blood tests, and heart and lung checks.
The introduction of these services is intended to provide faster diagnoses and facilitate timely treatment for local residents, reducing the need for travel to larger hospital centres.
