£20m expansion in the works for Seacroft CDC in Leeds

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust has unveiled plans to expand Seacroft Community Diagnostic Centre, adding two MRI scanners and new diagnostic and treatment facilities, with construction due to start in early 2027

Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is planning a £20m expansion of Seacroft Community Diagnostic Centre in Leeds, which will increase the facility’s capacity to provide diagnostic tests and treatment.

The expansion will add two MRI scanners, increase blood testing capacity and provide additional treatment rooms.

The upgraded centre is expected to deliver tens of thousands of additional diagnostic tests each year.

The project is supported by £20m in national funding.

Construction is due to begin in early 2027, with the expanded centre expected to open to patients in spring or summer 2028.

The existing diagnostic services will remain operational throughout the building work.

Expansion to increase diagnostic capacity

The additional facilities will enable the centre to provide tens of thousands of extra diagnostic tests each year, according to the trust.

The expanded service is intended to help patients receive faster diagnosis and treatment for conditions including cancer, heart disease and lung disease.

“The extended centre will help patients get faster treatment for conditions such as cancer, heart and lung disease. It will also bring care closer to patients’ homes, making tests more accessible for local people,” said Craige Richardson, Director of Estates and Facilities at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust.

Seacroft Community Diagnostic Centre opened in 2024 at Seacroft Hospital and is one of three CDCs in Leeds, alongside centres in Armley and Beeston.

Its existing services include blood tests, blood pressure checks, sleep studies, chest X-rays, ultrasound, X-rays, electrocardiograms and echocardiograms.

The centres allow patients referred by GPs or hospital teams to choose a convenient location for diagnostic tests, reducing the need to travel to larger hospitals.
