Elliott Off-Site Building Solutions has been appointed principle contractor for a £9.8m project to build a four-storey ward and theatre block at King’s College Hospital in London.
To be constructed using Elliott’s new Progression modular system, the building work will take around 24 weeks, with the high-performance volumetric steel structure designed to ensure minimal deflection in all areas and incorporating concrete floors for the operating theatres.
Elliott is providing a full turnkey solution that involves working with long-term partner Howorth, an air management and operating equipment manufacturer, on the theatre design and fitout.
The architect for the scheme is Architon.
Sustainable and eco features incorporated into the design include increased levels of insulation, low-energy lighting, energy-efficient heating systems and water-saving technology.
Jason Dodd, head of projects at Kings College Hospital, said: “We were impressed with how the Progression modular system is able to keep disruption to a minimum, which is important on this development as the main hospital has to remain open and accessible for the duration.”
The bespoke design for the unit ensures the new facility links to the hospital street and fits closely to the outline of the adjacent Nightingale Wards.
