The very-best patient safety innovations were recognised last week at an annual awards ceremony in Manchester.
The Patient Safety Awards 2016 highlight and reward outstanding practice within the NHS and independent healthcare organisations.
This year’s prizes were handed out during the Patient Safety Congress, with 18 trophies handed out in total.
The winners were:
- Award for Best Emerging Patient Safety Technology and IT – Winner, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust
- Award for Best Emerging Product or Innovation in Patient Safety – Winner, Royal Cornwall Hospital; Highly commended, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital Kings Lynn, Cambridge University Health Partners and Eastern Academic Health Science Network
- Award for Best Organisation – Winner, Frimley Health NHS Foundation Trust; Highly commended, St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust
- Award for Board Leadership – Winner, Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust; Highly commended, Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust
- Award for Cancer Care – Winner, East Lancashire Clinical Commissioning Group and Blackburn and Darwen Clinical Commissioning Group
- Award for Cardiac Care – Winner, Papworth Hospital
- Award for Changing Culture to Improve Patient Safety – Winner, Essex County Council; Highly commended, Weston General Hospital
- Award for Clinical Leadership – Winner, Countess of Chester Hospital NHS Foundation Trust; Highly commended, Royal Sussex County Hospital
- Award for Dementia Care – Winner, Calderdale and Huddersfield NHS Foundation Trust; Highly commended, Cumbria Partnership NHS Foundation Trust
- Award for Education and Training in Patient Safety – Winner, Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Plymouth University, Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, SUDEP Action, and UCL Institute of Neurology
- Award for Improving Safety in Medicines Management – Winner, Portsmouth Hospitals NHS Trust and Wessex Academic Health Science Network
- Award for Improving Safety in Primary Care – Winner, Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust; Highly commended, NHS Lewisham Clinical Commissioning Group
- Award for Managing Long-Term Conditions – Winner, South Tees Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
- Award for Patient Safety in the Care of Older People – Winner, North East London NHS Foundation Trust
- Award for Patient Safety in Mental Health – Winner, South West Zero Suicide Collaborative; Highly commended, West Midlands Police, West Midlands Ambulance Service, Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health Foundation Trust
- Award for Preventing Avoidable Harm – Winner, Lancashire County Council; Highly commended, Churchill Hospital
- Award for Procurement – Patient Safety – Winner, Lymphoedema Network Wales
