Teknomek launches UN3291-certified medical transport cart in new partnership with Hupfer

New to the UK market, the partnership has launched hygienic transport trolleys designed to support sterile services departments and healthcare facilities in meeting stringent infection control and clinical waste transport standards

Teknomek, the Norwich-based manufacturer of hygienic furniture and equipment, has announced a new partnership with Hupfer, a specialist in sterile goods logistics.

As part of the agreement, Teknomek has become the official UK distributor for Hupfer’s equipment range, beginning with its medical transport carts, independently certified to UN3291 standards for the safe transport of clinical waste.

Designed specifically for healthcare environments and sterile services departments (SSDs), sterile transport trolleys play a vital role in preventing contamination during the handling of sterile surgical instruments and medical equipment.

Once items have undergone autoclave decontamination, they are packed into containers and securely moved using these specialist trolleys to clinical areas on- or off-site.

The same trolleys are then used to return contaminated instruments for reprocessing.

Teknomek’s addition of the Hupfer medical trolley to its product portfolio marks a strategic step into the healthcare sector.

Manufactured from 304-grade stainless steel, each trolley is built to withstand the demands of healthcare environments. Certified to carry a payload of up to 250kg, the units feature a fully enclosed, single-walled construction that is easy to clean and sterilise.

They are also compatible with trolley washers and comply with NHS handling protocols and infection control guidelines.

The Hupfer trolleys are designed to minimise risks during handling and storage, helping to prevent damage such as rips and tears in sterile wraps and packaging films, a frequent hazard that can compromise hygiene and product integrity.

Available in four sizes, one single-door model and three double-door variants,  each trolley includes a three-point locking system, three height-adjustable stainless-steel shelves, and four 160mm castors with stainless steel housings and total lock braking.

Additional features such as ergonomic push handles, top-mounted corner bumpers, and two swivel castors enhance safe and stable manoeuvrability.

Michelle Locke, Product and Marketing Manager at Teknomek, said: “This partnership with Hupfer marks an exciting new stage in Teknomek’s development as a business, taking us further into the world of healthcare.

“We have chosen to market Hupfer medical transport carts because they have so many benefits for SSD operators.”

We are known for our manufacturing expertise and experience within sectors where hygiene is critical, so this is a natural progression

Locke explained that the cars are designed and manufactured to the highest possible standards, and are leak-proof, sealed, robust, and impact-resistant.

“Because the trolleys are fully aligned with NHS handling protocols and infection control standards, they provide medical personnel with complete confidence that every movement of sterilised equipment meets the highest safety standards,” Locke added.

“We are known for our manufacturing expertise and experience within sectors where hygiene is critical, so this is a natural progression. However, any business we partner with has to share our commitment to excellence and our values. Hupfer has a long and fascinating history and is a respected and forward-thinking specialist in its sector.

Locke stated that Teknomek will initially be offering the  Hupfer sterile transport trolley in four different sizes to customers, but is planning to add other Hupfer products to the range in the near future.
