The Norwich-based hygienic solutions specialist has expanded its product range for sterile services departments, offering a transport solution for the safe movement of sterilised medical equipment

Teknomek, UK-based specialist manufacturer of hygienic furniture and equipment, has launched a new medical transport cart certified to UN3291 standards.

The launch comes as part of a new exclusive partnership with Hupfer, one of Europe’s leading experts in sterile goods logistics.

The agreement sees Teknomek become the official UK distributor for Hupfer’s range of equipment, starting with the introduction of its Medical Transport Carts, designed specifically for sterile services departments (SSDs) and other critical healthcare environments.

Medical transport trolleys are essential in maintaining the sterility of surgical instruments and equipment as they move between sterilisation services and clinical areas, both on and off-site.

Following autoclave decontamination, instruments are cooled and packed before being transferred to the specially designed trolleys, ensuring that hygiene integrity is maintained throughout the process. Used instruments are then returned in the same secure manner for reprocessing.

Manufactured from 304-grade stainless steel, the Hupfer transport cart is one of the most durable solutions available for sectors with stringent hygiene requirements, according to the company.

With a fully enclosed, single-walled construction and a payload capacity of up to 250kg, the trolleys are independently certified to the UN3291 standard for the safe transport of clinical waste and contaminated items.

In addition to their robust build, the carts are fully compatible with trolley washers and align with NHS handling protocols and infection control guidelines.

Key design features include measures to prevent damage to sterile wraps and packaging films, a common issue during manual handling and transit, which can compromise both product integrity and patient safety.

The new product has been designed in four size options, one single-door and three double-door models, the trolleys feature a three-point locking system for added security and come equipped with height-adjustable stainless-steel shelves.

For ease of use in busy healthcare environments, they run on four 160mm castors with stainless-steel housings, two of which are swivel-mounted with total lock braking.

Michelle Locke, Product and Marketing Manager at Teknomek, described the new partnership as a significant step in the company’s growth within the healthcare sector.

“This partnership with Hupfer marks an exciting new stage in Teknomek’s development, taking us deeper into the healthcare sector,” she said.

Locke highlighted the practical benefits the Hupfer medical transport carts bring to sterile services departments (SSDs).

“Hupfer’s medical transport carts offer a host of benefits to SSD operators — they’re leak-proof, sealed, impact-resistant and manufactured to the highest standards. Crucially, they are fully compliant with NHS handling protocols and infection control standards, giving healthcare staff confidence that every movement of sterilised equipment is safely managed.”

She also emphasised the importance of partnering with businesses that align with Teknomek’s core values.

“We have a long-standing reputation for expertise in hygienic environments, and any business we partner with must share our values and commitment to excellence,” Locke added.

“Hupfer’s heritage and forward-thinking approach make them an ideal partner. We’re launching with the sterile transport trolley range but look forward to extending our offering of Hupfer products in the near future.”

Based in Norwich, Teknomek has built a reputation for supplying hygienic furniture and equipment to sectors where cleanliness is critical, including healthcare, pharmaceutical, and food processing industries.

The new partnership reinforces its commitment to delivering safe, compliant, and innovative solutions for clinical environments.
