The Building Better Healthcare Awards this year focuses on the technologies that are helping to revolutionise the delivery of healthcare buildings and services.
For the 2016 competition there are a number of new awards up for grabs, reflecting the increasing use of innovative technology to solve some of the most-pressing problems facing the sector, as well as securing much-needed efficiencies.
There are two awards that will recognise the Government’s mandate on the use of Building Information Modelling (BIM) for all centrally-funded construction projects.
The Award for Best Building Information Modelling Development comes under the Building Design class and will be presented to an exemplary new-build or refurbishment project that utilises BIM in its delivery.
The judges will be looking for a facility that is already fully operational and shows clear use of BIM from the outset and throughout delivery.
Projects must have been completed between 1 January 2015 and 1 June 2016 and must detail how the BIM approach has helped to save time and money and has improved the environment for patients, staff and visitors.
The use of BIM is also highlighted within the Estates and Facilities class, where there is an Award for Best Use of BIM.
This award recognises teams, both in-house and privately contracted, that have used BIM to improve the therapeutic value or patient experience of a health or care environment.
Elsewhere, in this year’s Product class, technology continues to have a key role with the return of the Award For Best Communications or IT Product.
The award will recognise communications and IT products that are helping to significantly enhance health and social care services.
Entries can include, but are not restricted to nurse call systems, graphics, wayfinding solutions, telecommunications and all IT hardware and software including ‘apps’.
BBH editor and awards organiser, Jo Makosinski, said: “Technology is increasingly becoming a vital tool for improving efficiency and enhancing treatment pathways within the health and care sector.
“It is also being used more extensively to improve the construction process, in particular with the Government’s mandate over the use of BIM.
“As such, the BBH Awards judges will this year be rewarding some of the most hard hitting and innovative systems and solutions with trophies.”
