Specialist trolley to carry mattresses developed by York portering manager

York Hospital's portering manager has developed a specialist trolley to carry mattresses after searching in vain to find one. Brenda Swales designed the Swales Mattress Trolley and developed it in partnership with G&J Logistics in Oldham, and it is now being ordered by hospitals nationwide. She said: "I'm really pleased with the result. Transporting mattresses is a common problem for all hospitals so I'm not surprised there has been a demand for it. I just can't wait to find the next thing that needs redesigning." Craig Austin, a porter at York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, added: "It's simple to use and can be easily operated by one person so it saves time and manpower."
