A new £1.3m urology clinic has opened in Malton, North Yorkshire, which will enhance the patient experience through a one-stop diagnostic and treatment service.
Designed by IBI Group, this purpose-built clinic responds to a new model of care that will enable patients to attend a single appointment during which all their consultation, investigative procedures, and diagnoses will be carried out.
Victoria Rice, IBI project architect, explained: “Working alongside the York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, we have carefully remodelled a redundant theatre space into a high-quality urology outpatient unit, which is clinically efficient while ensuring patients experience a calm and reassuring journey throughout their treatment.”
The new clinic amalgamates consultations, imaging, cystoscopy, basic urodynamics, and tissue biopsy all in one place, which ultimately will reduce operational costs for the trust and support an improved level of care.
The one-stop model is the gold standard approach to urology diagnostics
Patients benefit from a contemporary and bright healthcare environment adorned with a farm and nature-themed concept designed by local artist, Dan Savage.
Facilities include four new consultation rooms, a treatment room, and ultrasound unit, as well as a waiting and reception area.
Patrick Crowley, chief executive of York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The one-stop model is the gold standard approach to urology diagnostics.
“By pooling resources from York and Scarborough to create a single team, it has given the trust a unique opportunity to redesign the urology services and enhance patient experience.”
The scheme is part of an ongoing major capital investment by York Teaching Hospital NHS Foundation Trust working alongside Kier Construction, which will see improvements across several hospital sites.
