Leeds Children's Hospital, part of the Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (LTHT), has delivered more than 1,700 additional outpatient department clinics following a new technology investment.
Bookwise Solutions’ specialist outpatients scheduling system was implemented in February 2022, enabling the hospital to monitor and manage room bookings in the outpatients department quickly and accurately and helping to maximise resources.
Suzanne Abrahams, hospital general manager, said: “We’re always looking for ways to utilise our outpatient estate so that we can better support our community.
“Our new system streamlines the process of booking rooms and clinics and significantly reduces the time and resources that are wasted.
“It was beyond our expectations that a digital system could provide us with such big efficiency savings – considering that we are one of the largest acute trusts in Europe.
“But, since February 2022, we have seen around 1,000 more patients per month, which is fantastic. We’ve also been able to deliver 1,758 more outpatients clinics, and the average room utilisation jumped to 67%.”
Following successful implementation at Leeds Children's Hospital, the scheduling system has now been extended substantially within outpatient departments across the wider trust.
Denise Williamson, managing director at BookWise Solutions, said: “We’ve been delighted to help Leeds Children’s Hospital digitise its outpatients department.
“Efficiency is always important in hospitals and upgrading tasks like room booking using technology is a simple way to make big changes.”
