SitexOrbis eradicates Norovirus aboard Marco Polo cruise ship
The cruise ship Marco Polo, whose round-Britain cruise had to be cancelled because passengers became ill with the vomiting bug Norovirus, has been totally disinfected by SitexOrbis’ infection control fogging service in just five hours. During that time 375 rooms on 11 decks plus public spaces, lifts and communal areas were disinfected while the ship was moored at Tilbury Docks, Essex.
The UK company’s vaporisation system uses the antibacterial agent, Activ8, which is of proven biological efficacy and kills 99.99% of all known viruses and bacteria, both airborne and on surfaces, in minutes.
‘The sheer speed with which SitexOrbis has solved the problem has been amazing,’ said Christian Verhounig of the ship’s operator Transocean Tours. ‘We are extremely impressed, as it took only a few hours to disinfect the ship, rather than days of cleansing by traditional methods.’
David Walker, chief executive of SitexOrbis, said: ‘We are delighted to have been able to provide rapid assistance to ensure that the ship is disinfected and back in operation.’
The SitexOrbis process filled every space on board the ship with a 'vapour' of Activ8, which is totally harmless to humans and animals, but kills 99.99% of bacteria and viruses, including salmonella, MRSA, Clostridium Difficile, SARS, Listeria and flu viruses.
Activ8 is used to disinfect hospitals, schools, leisure facilities and workplaces. It is said to be totally effective against Norovirus and other pathogens. Because of its speed and capabilities, the company says it is more cost-effective than traditional steam cleaning and less disruptive.
