Sisk has been appointed to complete two new operating theatres for the brand-new Lewisham Surgical Centre at University Hospital Lewisham, South East London

Sisk, an Ireland-based construction company, is working under a healthcare partnership operating in a Memorandum of Agreement with Robertsons titled WeBuildHealthcare.

The project is to build two new operating theatres for the brand-new Lewisham Surgical Centre at University Hospital Lewisham in South East London.

Sisk told Building Better Healthcare that this project was awarded to WeBuildHealthcare as part of the national P23 framework.

P23 is a framework that enables NHS clients to quickly access experienced and proficient partners to support excellence in all aspects of NHS capital project delivery.

The new project

The site has a bespoke layout which will provide an efficient patient flow for high volume, low complexity surgery that meets clinician requirements.

Two operating theatres and associated facilities will be included with associated recovery and clinical support spaces.

The centre is set to begin operation in late 2025

Lewisham Surgical Centre will focus on 'high volume, low complexity' procedures in the field of Ear, Nose, and Throat (ENT). ENT has one of the largest specialty waiting lists in the country – over 650,000 as of May 2024 according to NHS data.

Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust (LGT) will be delivering over 5,000 ENT procedures for all of south east London at the new Lewisham Surgical Centre.

This new centre, built and delivered by LGT in partnership with the South East London ICB (Integrated Care Board) will make a huge difference in reducing waiting times for surgery across all of south east London.

It has all been made possible by national funding delivered via the Targeted Investment Fund, the Department for Health and Social Care’s fund that provides local capital investments to support the NHS in tackling elective care backlogs.

We have been enhancing our healthcare offering over the past couple of years with some key appointments, in order to improve our capability in the healthcare sector. We look forward to working with our local supply chain partners to deliver a world class facility and creating a lasting legacy for the communities of Lewisham and Greenwich.”

Ben Travis, Chief Executive, Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust said: “I want to pay tribute to the many people – colleagues, partners and patients who have shared their views – that have got Lewisham Surgical Centre to where it is today. We can’t wait to open this state-of-the-art facility up and start working in partnership to bring down those ENT waiting lists.”
