Radiology team welcomes first patients at Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s BEACH building

CT and X-ray services have been relocated from the emergency department to the BEACH building

Royal Bournemouth Hospital, part of University Hospitals Dorset NHS Foundation Trust, has relocated its CT and X-ray services for the Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s (RBH) Emergency Department and select inpatients to its new BEACH Building (standing for Births, Emergency and Critical care, children’s Health).

This follows the topping out of the building in May 2023.

The new 6-storey BEACH building also includes:

  • An enhanced emergency department
  • A new purpose-built maternity and children’s unit with birthing pools and single postnatal care rooms for new mums and their partners
  • A larger critical care facility with more space for patients and the teams caring for them, including access to outside space
  • 150,000 emergency and urgent care patients seen quicker, including a dedicated CT scanner
  • New energy centre and net-zero carbon design

April will see the opening of the state-of-the-art maternity and neonatal unit in the Royal Bournemouth Hospital’s BEACH building.

Dr Harry Adlington, Emergency Medicine Consultant and Clinical Director For Emergency and Urgent Care at the Trust, said: “At the heart of our plans is a necessity to improve the flow of emergency patients throughout our hospitals and most importantly, to provide patients with a better experience whilst under our care.”
