Private hospital to build six new cutting-edge theatres

Morgan Tucker has been appointed to lead the expansion of St Anthony’s Hospital in south west London as part of a £10m project.

The private hospital, situated in North Cheam and owned by Spire Healthcare, is to be extended, with a new theatre block on two levels, housing six cutting-edge theatres.

The £10m project will see Morgan Tucker working alongside architects, Beaumont and Cowling; service engineers, Leonard Engineering Design Associates; and project managers and quantity surveyors, Collabora Consulting.

Technical director at Morgan Tucker, Paul Bolton, said work was set to begin on site at the end of April and would be completed by June 2016.

He added: “We’ve recently been appointed as the consulting engineers on this project and are already looking forward to seeing the impressive end result once the new theatre block is complete.

“The new theatres will have a significant impact on developing the services that the hospital can offer and will help to extend its reach further in the local community.”

The history of St Anthony’s is particularly interesting, given that it was formerly owned and run by nuns of the Daughters of the Cross of Liege. A hospice can be found on the site to this day, known as St Raphael’s, which plays a vital part in providing palliative care to local patients and their families.

Bolton said: “The new theatre will serve to add to the existing high-quality healthcare on offer at the hospital and will significantly increase the number of patients the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers can care for.”

Hospital director, Melvin Robson, added: “To run a successful, modern hospital capable of treating thousands of patients a year with increasingly complex needs, regular and sizeable investment is required.

“St Anthony’s has a long established history of delivering a unique ethos of patient care and we intend to build on this by providing state-of-the-art facilities to attract the very best staff and consultants so we are able to deliver the very-best outcomes for our patients.”
