The development of healthcare apps is continuing with the launch of several new innovative technologies at a recent MedTech exhibition.
The NHS Innovation Expo 2013 featured a dedicated apps zone, showing off a library of new solutions to help patients better manage their health.
Already, around 70 apps are available, and the new solutions will increase the advice and support available for a range of conditions. They include:
- HealthFabric This allows people to create and share online care plans with their clinician and is aimed at people with dementia and other long-term conditions. It is currently available through seven clinical commissioning groups in the Midlands. Click here to access the app
- eRedbook This has been developed by SiteKit Applications in conjunction with Harlow Printing, the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health and Microsoft HealthVault and is the first digital version of the current Personal Child Health Record . The record, held by the parents of the child, can be updated by the parents to include general information of a child’s health, growth, immunisations and development after the child visits a health professional. This is being trialled in four areas – Rotherham, Grampian, Liverpool and South Warwickshire. Click here to access the app
- Patient Access Mobile Allows patients to get GP services like appointment and repeat prescriptions booking through their phone. It is free and available at any practice that has activated EMIS patient access. Click https://patient.emisaccess.co.uk'>here to access the app
- PatientsKnowBest This allows patients to get their laboratory results and send secure messages to their doctors and nurses. It is being trialled across 20 hospitals and eight clinical commissioning groups. Click here for more details
- Well Happy This helps young people to find support when they need it. It will link young people to local mental health, sexual health and substance misuse services in London. Click here for more details
- RallyRound Enables invited family, neighbours and friends to organise themselves online around relatives who need care. Everyone can see what needs doing and who is doing what. Rally Round helps families to better support frail and vulnerable people. Click here for details
