MJ Medical has been appointed as the medical equipment and furniture procurement consultant for two major developments at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust (UCLH).
Located in the heart of London, the new cancer and surgery facility is an 11-storey building which will be home to one of only two NHS proton beam therapy (PBT) centres in the UK.
The floors above the PBT centre will house Europe’s largest blood disorder treatment centre and a short-stay surgical service.
The second development involves the relocation of services currently provided at the Royal National Throat Nose and Ear Hospital, and the Eastman Dental Hospital to the newly-built Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals in Huntley Street.
This new facility will be a world-leading centre for the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the ear, nose, throat and mouth including dental, hearing, speech and balance services.
MJ Medical has been appointed by the trust to support it in undertaking the procurement of various medical equipment and furniture to ensure the new facilities can support the provision of exemplary care to patients.
This includes undertaking engagement with clinicians and other stakeholders to fully understand their requirements, and overseeing the tendering and selection process to ensure best-value-for-money outcomes are realised for the trust.
Danny Gibson, director at MJ Medical, said: “MJ Medical led the clinical design brief process for the developments in the early feasibility and business case stages, so to be able to contribute to the completion of these buildings through another element of our service offering several years later is really special.”
The new Royal National ENT and Eastman Dental Hospitals is due to open in the autumn of this year. The cancer and surgery facility follows in 2020.
