The milestone was marked by a ribbon-cutting ceremony led by RCHT’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Williamson, alongside representatives from the Trust, members of the local community, and the project delivery team from Kier Construction.
Designed to offer a modern, accessible, and patient-focused environment, the new department will support the delivery of acute healthcare services for residents across West Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The building features enhanced technical infrastructure to enable both face-to-face and virtual clinical care, ensuring greater flexibility in outpatient provision.
The UK-based construction company is a long-standing partner of RCHT.
Kier Construction has delivered the £9m outpatient department at West Cornwall Hospital
Doug Lloyd, Regional Director at Kier Construction, said: “The completion of this outstanding facility continues our long-standing relationship in building for the Trust and it has been a privilege to deliver another fantastic new facility for the local community in Penzance and the west of Cornwall.”
Speaking at the opening, Steve Williamson, CEO of RCHT, said: “We worked tirelessly with our partners in the NHS and with the local community for many years to secure this investment, which is why it is so pleasing to see the unit now built and our committed staff already providing outstanding care to our patients.
“I would like to thank the project team for successfully completing construction within a very short time frame, and also thank our many stakeholders, including the League of Friends, and local residents and councillors, who have supported us along this journey.”
Further enhancing the facility, the project team collaborated with Falmouth University to integrate local artwork into the hospital environment.

Final-year illustration students were invited to submit original pieces for an end-of-year module, and these works are now exhibited throughout the new building.
