Imperial College Healthcare Trust has confirmed that Ian Bateman will take up the role of Chief Operating Officer (COO).
The senior executive is responsible for overseeing the delivery and coordination of clinical and operational services across the Trust’s five London hospitals and community services.
According to the announcement, Bateman brings more than 20 years of healthcare experience and has previously served as Interim COO at the Trust.
Bateman’s background includes leading major vaccination programmes during the COVID-19 pandemic in North West London, and holding senior roles at national level.
He served as Chief of Staff for Urgent and Emergency Care at another national health body, as well as senior positions in the charity and housing sectors.
Bateman’s appointment comes at a time of significant estate and service transformation across ICHT.
The Trust is simultaneously advancing major redevelopment plans at several sites.
In 2021, proposals under the New Hospital Programme were submitted for a full‑scale rebuild of ICHT’s St Mary’s Hospital, aiming to replace outdated infrastructure and deliver improved clinical facilities, research, and innovation spaces.
The Trust has also committed to a multimillion‑pound decarbonisation drive across its estate, upgrading heating, ventilation, lighting and energy systems to meet sustainability and resilience goals.
“I'm really proud of everything we've achieved over the past couple of years, for the benefit of our patients and community. This includes bringing down waiting times, navigating a range of tricky estates and other challenges, and working more closely with our health and care partners,” said Ian Bateman, COO of ICHT.
With Bateman now at the operational helm, Imperial will coordinate these projects and others when it comes to sustainability, redevelopment, and operational updates.
