Experienced healthcare technology company leader, Gordon Lorimer, has been appointed as managing director for Cambio Healthcare Systems in the UK and Ireland to grow the Swedish firm’s EPR presence in the region.
With over a decade working at the forefront of health IT, Lorimer brings with him a breadth and depth of knowledge and wide range of contacts from across the sector.
He will look to build on the success Cambio has had in the Nordic region, where it is a fundamental part of the technology-enabled integrated care model that the UK is looking to emulate, and which was reiterated in the recent Spending Review.
Building on the NHS Five Year Forward View, Chancellor George Osborne promised investment of £1billion in health technology over five years, so that by 2020 integrated care records will give every health and care professional concerned with an individual’s care the information they need to provide safe and prompt care.
Cambio COSMIC, which has been in use in The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust since 2014, has impressive credentials to help achieve this vision. COSMIC works with half of Sweden’s public healthcare organisations, and supports a single patient record in use across Greenland and the Faroe Islands for all health and care providers through to tertiary care hospitals. In Denmark, the COSMIC system in Region South has 23,000 registered users, proving Cambio can support large complex implementations with multiple users from across health and social care.
Lorimer will apply his energy and belief in the benefit that healthcare IT can bring to promote Cambio’s COSMIC electronic patient record (EPR) system, its patient administration system (PAS), and clinical decision support solutions, to the acute, community, mental health, social and patient portal markets in the UK, and show how it can help health and care economies deliver technology-enabled person-centred care.
“Cambio has the technology and the team that can make the most impact for patients across multiple care providers,” he said.
“There is a great deal of similarity in the leading EPR systems’ functionality. However, Cambio is different because we work very closely with our customers to help them achieve what they want to achieve and at a cost that is easily justified. We do this by using a substantial product development capability coupled with a proven implantation methodology to support the future of health and care delivery. Cambio is capable and caring with experienced highly-skilled staff dedicated to working in a true partnership with our customers.”
Cambio’s COSMIC EPR is an open modular system that supports clinical and administrative processes across healthcare organisations of all sizes and care settings. It can scale according to the emerging needs of NHS and other care providers, so that it can support their patient safety, integrated care and clinical efficiency ambitions.
“Getting the patient more involved in their care will be extremely important going forward, with patient portals coming to the fore,” said Lorimer.
“Our system can support this, as well as deliver clinical decision support solutions that can recommend the best in care. Cambio already supports such delivery of care in the Nordic market; we can now offer this to the UK and Ireland as well.”
Tomas Mora-Morrison, founder and innovation director of Cambio Healthcare Systems, added: “Gordon will now play a key role in helping to grow the market in the UK and Ireland. We believe his strong track record provides the credentials to enable him to achieve this, while his passion for healthcare technology fits well with our culture of delivering services and solutions that can bring about real change for our customers. We look forward to working with healthcare providers to demonstrate how we can help them realise their goals at scale and pace, and at a cost that is affordable to meet their specific needs.”
