Denne, part of the Leadbitter Group, has begun construction of the Cheneys, a new development of 35 self-contained extra care apartments for older tenants in Seaford, East Sussex.
The Cheneys, which includes 25 one-bedroom and 10 two-bedroom apartments in a three-storey building, is located next to client Sussex Housing and Care’s head office, which will also be refurbished as part of the contract.
The apartments replace a former nursing home and will allow residents to live independently, while having access to a high level of extra care if they need it. Facilities will include a beauty suite, restaurant and kitchen, communal lounge, coffee shop and landscaped gardens.
The Cheneys aims to meet Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4, with a number of sustainable features including advanced insulation, solar photovoltaic panels to provide electricity for residents, and the introduction of native species in the gardens. The building will be of traditional construction with a zinc roof, brick facades and composite timber and aluminium-clad windows.
The work at Sussex Housing and Care’s headquarters will involve demolishing and rebuilding part of the building to deliver improved facilities, including a new kitchen, bathrooms, meeting rooms and offices. The building’s exterior will also be completely refurbished.
